This is the story of how my family of sixteen, with a pile of special requirements and needs and the potential to become a traveling disaster, had itself the most wonderful time traveling to Jordan, completely carefree.
Multigenerational Joy
There’s nothing like watching your family grow and evolve, and when you’re a grandpa of eight, it’s eight times better. Seeing your children become parents, and your grandchildren develop their own unique personalities, is a joy like no other. The cherry on top though as far as I’m concerned, is traveling the world together.

From the moment we landed in Jordan, we began the adventure on a high note. Exploring the colorful city of Amman, soaking in the minerals while floating in the Dead Sea, and being taken aback at the sight of the ancient city of Petra, which was in particular long on my list. I always dreamed of seeing it and as it rarely happens for me, reality exceeded my expectations. From there, though my wife was understandably reluctant in the beginning, we all headed to an extremely thrilling Jeep tour in Wadi Rum. The desert views were beyond stunning, and at the end, even my wife enjoyed herself tremendously, but most of all our grandchildren. The desert landscape left us speechless.
Cultural Immersion and Lasting Memories
All that said, a tour is not just about the famous landmarks. We were introduced to the heart of Jordan – its people. We shared meals with local families, learned about their traditions, and even took part in a cooking workshop, that accommodated all of our dietary restrictions. It was wonderful. We have more trouble cooking for everyone at home than we had at a cooking workshop half way around the world. They were ready for us in advance and it was a treat. These intimate encounters enriched our journey and gave us a deeper appreciation for the country’s diverse culture.
